Up for sale is a recent Estate Auction find, an Antique 1920's Art Deco SIGNED Ostby & Barton Natural Lapis Lazuli Hand Milgrained 10k Solid Yellow Gold Men's Ring in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION. This Antique 1920's Art Deco 10k Solid Yellow Gold Ring is set with a Fantastic 16x13.5mm Natural Lapis Lazuli Gemstone. This Lapis is a DEEP BLUE with Glittering Flecks of Pyrite and some fine seams of Calcite. Lapis Lazuli was once used to manufacture blue artistic paints before 1834. Many of the worlds masterpieces we painted using lapis based blues. This quality lapis is only found in Afghanistan and Egypt. Many ancient cultures believed that lapis enhanced self-expression. This lapis is all natural and has not been color enhanced in any way. This lapis is a Beautiful cushion-Shaped Cabochon Cut. Cabochon refers to a gemstone that has been shaped and highly polished instead of being faceted. This lapis is in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION free of any breaks, nicks, scratches, or chips. All of our photos are taken using DAYLIGHT BULBS with a color temperature of 5000k so the colors in the photos are very close to what the ring would look like in outdoor sunlight. This lapis will appear darker in person and indoors. The interior of the ring is also fully hallmarked with an "OB" which is the maker's mark for Ostby & Barton an extremely collectible and sought after vintage brand. Ostby & Barton, Providence R.I. The business was established in 1879 by Englehart C. Ostby and Nathan B. Barton. Ostby perished in the Titanic disaster while his daughter Helen made it to a lifeboat and survived. This Classic 10k Solid Yellow Gold ring has great Art Deco Architectural Shoulder elements with hand milgrained details. Milgrain details look so beautiful, appealing and interesting because the beaded pattern is able to make the area resemble the edge of a coin. A specialized jeweler's hand tool is used to create interesting texture that is said to resemble tiny beading or embroidery. The dark areas on the gold in the photos are not blemishes but shadows and reflections due to the difficulty in photographing the highly polished gold.
