This Natural AMETHYST is of the HIGHEST QUALITY and NICE EVEN PURPLE not the very light washed out Amethyst Commonly Available. This Amethyst is an Antique Cut. This Antique Cut is a hybrid between an Antique cut popular from the 1500's up to the 1900 and the top of an Antique European Cut. This Amazing Amethyst has a large table and round girdle with a beautifully faceted bottom. This amethyst is both natural and genuine and guaranteed as such. These Antique Cut gemstones came into existence after the Old Mine Cut variety yet prior to the round brilliant diamond cuts of today, sometime during the 1880's and were used well into the Art Deco period in the 1920's. The Antique cut gemstone has a few unique characteristics to it which enables individuals to identify them. Characteristics such as rounded appearance, 58-facet cut and hand faceting production are all traits which correspond with Old European Cut gemstones. Another distinct characteristic of some antique cut gemstones similar to mine cut gems is a flat culet. Look through the top of this antique cut amethyst and you will see what looks like a round window. This amethyst is in PERFECT PRISTINE CONDITION free of any chips, nicks, cracks, or scratches. The ring is a classic Victorian Belcher Setting in Solid 14k Rose Gold with six prongs that hold the amethyst securely. All six Prongs are in GREAT CONDITION which is RARE for an Original Victorian Belcher Setting Ring. This type of ring is named after Thomas Belcher, an American jewelry designer from the 19th Century, the Belcher setting features prongs built into the shank of the ring. The U-shaped curves separate the prongs and create a petal like design and reflect light into the gemstone. Given the size of the ring (a size 7 1/2) this ring would work well as a men's pinky ring , a woman's ring or it could be sized up substantially for larger fingers because of the wide band and the way it is made. The dark areas on the gold in the photos are not blemishes but shadows and reflections due to the difficulty in photographing the highly polished gold. This ring is in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION and will arrive ready to wear.
This is an Original Antique Victorian Ring Dating to Around 1900 not a copy or reproduction.
