EXCEPTIONAL NEAR MINT CONDITION
Up for auction is a recent Estate Auction find, an Antique SIGNED JR WOOD & Sons of New York 1920's Art Deco Antique Cut Natural & Genuine Diamond 14k Solid White Gold Filigree Ladies Cocktail Ring in EXCEPTIONAL NEAR MINT CONDITION. This Original Antique SIGNED JR WOOD & Sons of New York 1920's Art Deco 14k Solid White Gold ring has an 18.5x7mm Hand Engraved Elongated Octagonal Face set with a BEAUTIFUL 2mm Natural & Genuine Diamond. This Diamond is a Rare Antique Cut. This Antique Cut is a hybrid between an Antique cut popular from the 1500's up to the 1900 and the top of the diamond is cut like an Antique European Cut. These Old European Cut gemstones came into existence after the Old Mine Cut variety yet prior to the round brilliant diamond cuts of today, sometime during the 1880's and were used well into the Art deco period in the 1920's. The Old European Cut Diamond has a few unique characteristics to it which enables individuals to identify them. Characteristics such as rounded appearance and hand faceting production are all traits which correspond with the Old European Cut Diamond. The reason for the diamond to be cut in this manner is so that the light is brought in at such an angle that the vision which those gazing upon the diamond perceive is one of brilliance and fire. This diamond has very nice color and clarity and is guaranteed to be both Genuine & Natural. As far as clarity it is conservatively in the VS range because we can see no visible inclusions using a 10x loupe. As far as color it is hard to say because it is mounted in a white gold mount, so our best estimate is that it is in the G-H range. This Diamond is in PERFECT PRISTINE CONDITION free of any chips, nicks, cracks, or scratches. This ring is stamped "JR" with a sideways "W" which was the hallmark used by the J.R. Wood & Sons Company. The J.R. Wood & Sons Company, founded by John R. Wood, manufactured jewelry in Brooklyn, NY starting in 1850. See photo #12 for the story of JR Wood and the evolution of their hallmarks. This is one of their early hallmarks. The company was known for its skills in diamond cutting, wedding ring making and for the production of fine gold and platinum jewelry. This 14k Solid White Gold Setting has Ornate Art Deco details with beautiful hand engraved lines on the face of the ring radiating out from the diamond as well as and fantastic reticulated filigree details. The filigree is in PERFECT CONDITION with no damage or breaks in the delicate openwork. This ring is fully hallmarked "14k" and tests as and is guaranteed to be 14k Solid Gold. (Again this ring is guaranteed to be Solid Gold not plated or layered) This ring is in EXCEPTIONAL NEAR MINT CONDITION and will arrive ready to wear.
