This lapis has been drilled and the Masonic symbol has been set in the lapis with posts not simply applied to the top. The diamond mount is at the top of the Square & Compass Symbol The diamond is a antique single cut diamond with a tall table and a round girdle and no culet facet. A single cut diamond has 16 to 18 facets. This type of single cut is an early diamond cut dating to the 19th and early 20th century. The reason for the diamond to be cut in this manner is so that the light is brought in at such an angle that the vision which those gazing upon the diamond perceive is one of brilliance and fire. This diamond has very nice color and clarity and is guaranteed to be both Genuine & Natural. The Solid Yellow Gold Masonic Square & Compass is detailed in blue enamel. This Lapis is a DEEP BLUE with Glittering Flecks of Pyrite. Lapis Lazuli was once used to manufacture blue artistic paints before 1834. Many of the worlds masterpieces we painted using lapis based blues. This quality lapis is only found in Afghanistan and Egypt. Many ancient cultures believed that lapis enhanced self-expression. This lapis is all natural and has not been color enhanced in any way. This lapis is a Beautiful Oval Cabochon Cut. Cabochon refers to a gemstone that has been shaped and highly polished instead of being faceted. The lapis and the diamond are in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION free of any breaks, nicks, scratches, or chips. This ring also features Masonic Plumb and Trowel Symbols in the shoulders of the setting accented in blue enamel. All of our photos are taken using DAYLIGHT BULBS with a color temperature of 5000k so the colors in the photos are very close to what the ring would look like in outdoor sunlight. This lapis will appear darker in person and indoors. The interior of the ring is hallmarked with a Maltese Cross and the RARE Three Dots which are maker's mark for Ostby & Barton an extremely collectible and sought after vintage brand. The "OB" that is usually to the left of the Maltese Cross has worn away or was sized out at some point. Ostby & Barton, Providence R.I. The business was established in 1879 by Englehart C. Ostby and Nathan B. Barton. Ostby perished in the Titanic disaster while his daughter Helen made it to a lifeboat and survived. The company went on to become one of the most famous jewelry companies in the world. Ostby & Barton Jewelry is now an extremely collectible and highly sought after vintage brand. This Classic 10k Solid White Gold ring has great hand milgrained details around the bezel and on the shoulders of the setting. Milgrain details look so beautiful, appealing and interesting because the beaded pattern is able to make the area resemble the edge of a coin. A specialized jeweler's hand tool is used to create interesting texture that is said to resemble tiny beading or embroidery. The dark areas on the gold in the photos are not blemishes but shadows and reflections due to the difficulty in photographing the highly polished white gold. Aside from a little blue enamle wear this ring is otherwise in r EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION and will arrive ready to wear.
This is an Antique Ostby & Barton 1920's Art Deco Men's Masonic Ring not a copy or reproduction.
