Up for sale is a recent find, an Antique SIGNED JR WOOD & Sons of NY 1920's Art Deco 6ct PURPLE SPINEL 10k Solid Yellow Gold Men's Ring in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION. This Antique SIGNED JR WOOD & Sons of NY 1920's Art Deco 10k Solid Yellow Gold Ring is set with a Beautiful 6ct 12x10mm PURPLE SPINEL with amazing LILAC PURPLE COLOR and NEAR PERFECT CLARITY. This spinel has SUPERB LUSTER. This spinel is an Unusual Rectangular Baguette with Beautiful Scissor Cut Sides. The Spinel Gemstone has a storied history because famous rubies & sapphires in crown jewels around the world are actually spinels. The most famous is the Black Prince's ruby, was actually a fantastic 170-carat red spinel that now adorns the Imperial State Crown of England in the British Crown Jewels. The spinel is now a treasured gemstone on its own, spinel is a favorite of gem dealers and collectors because if its brilliance, hardness and wide range of spectacular colors. This gemstone tests as a spinel on a Presidium Gem Tester and a reflectometer and is a very high quality lab grown spinel. A Lab Grown Spinel has the exact same physical, optical, and chemical properties of a Natural Spinel meaning it is as hard and scratch resistant. The waves and swirls on the spinal in the photos are not blemishes but shadows and reflections because the polished surface is difficult to photograph. Aside from a tine nick in one corner of the top facet this spinel is otherwise in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION free of any breaks, cracks, or scratches. The shoulders of the setting feature great textured concave details. This ring is stamped with a sideways "W" and "WOOD" which was the hallmark used by the J.R. Wood & Sons Company. The J.R. Wood & Sons Company, founded by John R. Wood, manufactured jewelry in Brooklyn, NY starting in 1850. The company was known for its skills in diamond cutting, wedding ring making and for the production of fine gold and platinum jewelry. Photo #11 has the history of J.R. Wood & Sons Jewelry with all their hallmarks through the years as they evolved from JR Wood to Artcarved. The dark areas on the gold in the photos are not blemishes but shadows and reflections due to the difficulty in photographing the highly polished gold.
