This VERY HEAVY 14.5 Gram (0.51 Ounce) Whopping Over 1/2 Ounce Antique 1930's Solid Sterling Silver & 10k Gold Ring is set with a Beautiful LARGE 19x15mm Natural Iolite Gemstone cabochon. The top of this ring is quite large at just over 1 inch long. Iolite is also known as "The Viking Stone" because according to Norse legend, Vikings used iolite as a polarizing filter to help them find the sun on cloudy days. As can bee seen in photo #2 you can actually look through the Iolite from the bottom. It is believed that the Vikings discovered iolite deposits throughout Norway and Greenland. Iolite is typically light to dark blue and violet, although it can also occur in various shades of yellow, gray, green or brown. The most desirable color is this VIOLET BLUE color. This Iolite is a Cushion=shaped Flat Cabochon Cut. Cabochon refers to a gemstone that has been shaped and highly polished instead of being faceted. This is an old hand cut gemstone with great color and internal feather crystal formation feather and inclusions. The surface is not a glossy finish but is more matte and flat to reduce glare. Aside from some natural pitting this iolite gemstone is otherwise in GOOD CONDITION free of any cracks or breaks. The interior of the ring stamped "OB" which is the hallmark for Ostby & Barton an extremely collectible and sought after vintage brand. Ostby & Barton, Providence R.I. The business was established in 1879 by Englehart C. Ostby and Nathan B. Barton. Ostby perished in the Titanic disaster while his daughter Helen made it to a lifeboat and survived. The company went on to become one of the most famous jewelry companies in the world. Ostby & Barton Jewelry is now an extremely collectible and highly sought after vintage brand. This Solid Sterling Silver Setting has great 10k Gold Filled ccents with Beautiful Classic 1920's Deco Architectural Details. The darker oil slick look in the details and recessed areas is the natural patina of the ring that only comes with age. If you would like us to polish the ring further to remove this patina just let us know, it is no problem at all. This is a VERY HEAVY and Substantial 14.5 Gram (0.51 Ounce) Whopping Over 1/2 Ounce Ring.  Aside from a little gold & silver wear this ring is otherwise in GOOD CONDITION and will arrive ready to wear.

This is an Antique Ostby & Barton 1920's Art Deco Men's Ring not a copy or reproduction.
