Up for sale is a find from a large collection of Turquoise pieces acquired at Auction, a Vintage 1940's SIGNED Ostby & Barton Natural RARE Nevada Fox Mine Turquoise Solid Sterling Silver & 10k Gold Men's Ring in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION. This HEAVY 8.2 Gram (0.29 Ounce) Almost 1/3 Ounce Vintage 1940's SIGNED Ostby & Barton Solid Sterling Silver & 10k Gold Ring is set with a Stunning 16x12mm RARE Fox Mine Turquoise Gemstone. The Fox Turquoise mine in Nevada opened in the early 1900's and has not been in major production since 1980. The Fox mine near Lander Country Nevada has also been known as the Cortez mine. A local Native American showed the turquoise to Charles Schmidtlein, who first developed it into a mine in 1914. This all natural turquoise has not been color enhanced in any way and is guaranteed as such. This Turquoise is a Rectangular Cabochon Cut. Cabochon refers to a gemstone that has been shaped and highly polished instead of being faceted. The Color range of Fox Turquoise is from a soft sky blues to blue-green to green. This turquoise is in PERFECT PRISTINE CONDITION free of any cracks, nicks, scratches, or chips. We sell quite a few Ostby & Barton rings and most have an "OB" hallmark or an "OB" with a maltese cross. We discovered that the "OSBEE" hallmark is a rarely seen later period Ostby & Barton hallmark. We found this label on the bottom of an Ostby & Barton store counter display. (See photo #9) The label says "OS BEE Quality Rings Since 1879 Ostby & Barton Providence RI" We matched this hallmark to a 1940's catalog to date the period. The interior of the ring is also fully hallmarked with the maker's mark of "OsBee" which is the hallmark for Ostby & Barton an extremely collectible and sought after vintage brand. Ostby & Barton, Providence R.I. The business was established in 1879 by Englehart C. Ostby and Nathan B. Barton. Ostby perished in the Titanic disaster while his daughter Helen made it to a lifeboat and survived. The company went on to become one of the most famous jewelry companies in the world. Ostby & Barton Jewelry is now an extremely collectible and highly sought after vintage brand. The classic ring is solid sterling silver with 10k yellow gold filled accents on the shoulders.
