Up for sale is a recent auction find, a Vintage 1940's SIGNED Budlong Docherty & Armstrong GREEN/BLUE/PURPLE RARE Black Natural Opal in EXCEPTIONAL NEAR MINT CONDITION. This Vintage 1940's SIGNED Budlong Docherty & Armstrong BLUE/GREEN/PURPLE RARE Black Natural Opal 10k Solid Yellow Gold Ring is set with a STUNNING 12x10mm GREEN/BLUE/PURPLE FIRE RARE BLACK Opal. This is a Spectacular Natural BLACK Opal Triplet with BRIGHT GREEN//BLUE/PURPLE Fire with Flashes of ORANGE and GOLDEN Fire. Black opal is the most rare and valuable of all opal. The spectacular fire in this opal changes depending on the viewing angle. As with all opals it is the most vivid in sunlight or full spectrum lighting. This is a triplet opal where the brightest genuine & natural solid opal is mounted on backing of onyx and then covered with a protective clear natural quartz crystal cap. We took quite a few photos of this stunning opal under different lighting conditions to give an idea of the abundance and brightness of the fire and where it occurs. The waves and swirls on the opal in the photos are not blemishes but shadows and reflections as the polished surface is difficult to photograph. This Opal is a Rectangular Cabochon Cut. Cabochon refers to a gemstone that has been shaped and highly polished instead of being faceted. This opal is in PERFECT PRISTINE CONDITION free of any cracks, scratches, or chips. The 10k Solid Yellow Gold setting has a great fluted shoulders and a bracketed setting designed to allow light into the opal. The interior of the ring is stamped with the maker's mark of "BDA" which is the maker's mark of Budlong Docherty & Armstrong of Providence, Rhode Island established in 1915, a collectible and sought after vintage brand. The dark areas on the gold in the photos are not blemishes but shadows and reflections due to the difficulty in photographing the highly polished gold. This ring is fully hallmarked "10k" and tests as and is guaranteed to be 10k solid gold.
