Up for sale is a recent find, an Vintage 1940's SIGNED Ostby & Barton United States Military Solid Sterling Silver Eagle Sided Antique Cut Genuine Antique Cut Diamond Hand Milgrained Men's Signet Ring in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION. This 7.8 Gram (0.28 Ounce) Over 1/4 Ounce Antique United States Military SIGNED Ostby & Barton Solid Sterling Silver Ring has Beautifully cast eagles and stars on the sides. The top of the ring is a 16x12.5mm oval that has been drilled and a BEAUTIFUL 1.7mm Natural & Genuine Antique Single Cut Diamond has been expertly bead set in a white gold mount. This type of antique single cut diamond has a larger table and a round girdle and no culet facet. A single cut diamond has 16 to 18 facets. This type of single cut is an early diamond cut dating to the 19th and early 20th century. The reason for the diamond to be cut in this manner is so that the light is brought in at such an angle that the vision which those gazing upon the diamond perceive is one of brilliance and fire. This diamond has very nice color and clarity and is guaranteed to be both Genuine & Natural. As far as clarity it is conservatively in the VS range because we can see no visible inclusions using a 10x loupe. As far as color it is hard to say because it is mounted in white gold mount so our best estimate is that it is in the K-L range. This Diamond is in PERFECT PRISTINE CONDITION free of any chips, nicks, cracks, or scratches. The interior of the ring is marked with the maker's mark of "OB" which is the hallmark for Ostby & Barton. Ostby & Barton, Providence R.I. The business was established in 1879 by Englehart C. Ostby and Nathan B. Barton. Ostby perished in the Titanic disaster while his daughter Helen made it to a lifeboat and survived. The company went on to become one of the most famous jewelry companies in the world. Ostby & Barton Jewelry is now an extremely collectible and highly sought after vintage brand. This is one of only a few Military Ostby & Barton Men's rings we have had the opportunity to offer for auction. This ring has a great Solid Back Design and Beautiful Cast Eagles and Stars on the sides of the ring. The diamond mount has hand done milgrain details around the edge. Milgrain edging looks so beautiful, appealing and interesting because the beaded patterns is able to make the ring’s edge resemble the edge of a coin. A specialized jeweler's hand tool is used to create interesting texture that is said to resemble tiny beading or embroidery. The shoulders of the setting are beautifully reticulated. The dark areas on the silver in the photos are not blemishes but shadows and reflections due to the difficulty in photographing the highly polished silver. This ring is marked with "Sterling" and the rings tests as and is guaranteed to be solid sterling silver with a solid white gold diamond mount. (Again this ring is guaranteed to be Solid Sterling Silver & Solid White Gold not plated or layered) This ring is in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION and will arrive ready to wear.
